Institutional strengthening and capacity building of implementing partner institutions

The project earlier this year supported the development of the first ever #Community_Development_Policy_and_Strategic_Implementation_Plan_2024_2033. This policy is aimed to rejuvenate the role of the Department of Community Development as the institution responsible for galvanizing and mobilizing community support through local initiatives that would promote sustained economic and social growth.

The EbA Project for the past five years worked with the DCD as a key IP to rehabilitate and construct 5 Multipurpose Centres (MPCs) and 3 handicraft centers to promote natural resource-based enterprises that would build the resilience and adaptive capacity of communities against climate change.

The policy development process took a wide range of consultations and inputs from experts and stakeholder institutions alike to ensure that an appropriate working document is developed and would guide programme implementation for the next 10 years.

The Validation exercise that took place on Tuesday 4th June 2023 at Baobab Holiday Resort brought together stakeholders ranging from former DCD Directors, field officers, relevant government and NGOs and CEOs from all the local government councils to ensure a more robust document that would reflect the needs of the communities in line with the development aspirations of the government of The Gambia, SDGs and the AU Agenda 63.
